All-on-4 Implants FAQs in San Carlos CA Area

Difference between the All-on-4 Procedure and the A4 Implant Solution

The A4 Implant Solution provides a PERMANENT (Titanium Reinforced) bridge that is fully functional just hours after surgery. The All-on-4 procedure, on the other hand, requires multiple visits over a full year and requires you to wear temporary dentures during this time period.

What is the difference between you and the corporate dental centers?

Summary: Our dental implant practice is family-owned and focused on patient satisfaction rather than corporate quotas. They prioritize patient comfort, health, and well-being and ensure personalized care. Notably, we offer a permanent bridge with a titanium framework in a minimal number of visits, setting us apart from corporate dental centers.

How much does the procedure cost? Does insurance cover a portion of the procedure?

The cost ranges between $15,000 to $25,000 per jaw. The cost may differ depending on condition of jaw bone, health conditions, number of implants required and selected teeth material options.

We take most PPO instances. However, insurance companies consider dental implants to be cosmetic in nature and therefore do not typically cover more than a small amount towards things like teeth extractions, etc. Many of our patients will use their flexible spending accounts they have through work to help plan for the procedure.

Surgery & Procedure Questions

How many days does it take to get an A4 Implant Bridge?

Within 3-4 days you can get your new teeth in as little as two visits.

  • Day 1: Consultation & Preoperative – CT scans, facial scans, x-rays, measurements, tooth shade and shape selection, discussion with implant surgeon and lab engineer.
  • Day 2: Surgery under IV Sedation – Extractions (if necessary), surgical placement of dental implants, impressions and scans.  You will be without teeth overnight for the last time in your life. Remember, this is no temporary, converted denture. You are receiving a custom-milled, highly aesthetic, hybrid bridge with a one-piece milled titanium bar.
  • Day 3/4: Delivery of PERMANENT milled bridges — How is that possible?  Well, it normally takes 4-6 months for single implants to fully integrate into the bone. With the A4 Implant Solution, all the implants are connected to each other via a titanium bar that reinforces the teeth and distributes the biting forces among all the implants. This allows the implants to share the chewing forces of soft food while implants continue to heal  in the next 4-6 months. Due to our unique protocols and in-office lab, you enjoy the benefits of PERMANENT, fully functioning teeth, in only a few days after surgery.

The process may differ depending on type of material for bridges and your unique health conditions.

What are Teeth Material Options?

  1. High Performance Polymer (PMMA) bridge reinforced with Titanium metal bar
    1. Soft teeth material with strong metal core
    2. Lighter with flexibility and shock absorption
    3. Biting surface of teeth material does wear and need replacement
    4. No temporary teeth needed, permanent bridge in 3-4 days
    5. Warranty – Three years but can last longer

  1. High Strength Zirconia crowns reinforced with a thimble design Titanium metal bar
    1. Hard and Strong teeth with higher wear resistance and longer lifer
    2. Heavier with limited flexibility and shock absorption
    3. Temporary printed bridge for 4 months, then permanent zirconia teeth
    4. Warranty – Five years but can last longer

How do I know what my teeth will look like? Can I see my teeth design before surgery?

We use facial and intra oral scanners and your pictures to do a virtual smile design and show you photorealistic 3D rendering that shows your new smile.

Is there excessive pain in the dental implants procedure/healing process?

Most patients experience only moderate soreness and report little pain regardless of the number of extractions. Any discomfort generally reduces in 3-4 days. Patients are cleared to fly or participate in moderate activity in as little as 24 hours after surgery.

To mitigate any potential pain, patients are prescribed medications prior to surgery.

What if I have been told by another dentist that I’m not a candidate or don’t have enough bone for dental implants?

In our experience, 90% of patients who have been told they are not candidates for traditional dental implant options are eligible for the A4 Implant Solution.

When patients do not have enough bone we use special surgical techniques that use additional implants that cover the front, middle and back portion of the jaw bone.

Don’t the implants need time to heal before placing the permanent teeth?

With the A4 Implant Solution, all the implants are connected to each other via a titanium metal bar that reinforces the teeth and distributes the biting forces among all the implants. This allows the implants to share the chewing forces of soft food while implants continue to heal  in the next 4-6 months.

In other cases with excessive bone loss, we add two additional implants all the way back (wisdom teeth area) where the bone is usually good.

What is the success rate of dental implants?

Dental implants are generally successful, with a 90%-95% success rate over 10 years. However, success rates are affected by a lot of various factors such as age and gender, smoking habits, systemic diseases, and oral hygiene.

What is the typical recovery process and timeline for a patient after undergoing the A4 Implant procedure? How does it compare to the recovery time for traditional implants?

The recovery process for the A4 Implant system is usually quick, with many patients resuming normal activities within a couple of days. A4 Implant system in San Carlos CA Area The implants need time to heal and fully integrate with the jawbone which can take around 4 months, which is similar to traditional dental implant processes. It is  different from the traditional process which places a temporary acrylic denture during the healing phase.

Will I be sedated?

Most procedures are done under local  anesthesia and IV sedation.

How long does surgery last?

Depending on the number of extractions, number of implants placed, the surgery lasts 3-5 hours and then impressions take another 2 hours.

What if I have severe dental anxiety?

Summary: Our dental office aims to alleviate patients’ fears and provide a comforting experience. We treat patients like family and strive to change negative perceptions of dental offices. In addition to local anesthesia, we offer IV sedation for a mild sleep-like state during procedures.

What kind of medicines are prescribed?

Usually a week before surgery, depending on your health conditions, typically antibiotics, pain medicines and antibacterial rinse are ordered

After Care Questions

What do the A4 Implant Solution bridges feel like?

The bridges provide a new sensation for your mouth—especially if your teeth have been compromised or missing for many years. So after surgery, it will take time for you to get used to your new bridges. However, we customize your bridges to feel as comfortable and as close to natural teeth as possible.

What does it mean to Reline the bridges?

Gums heal and shrink for up to six months after surgery. Gum shrinkage varies person to person. If the gap between underside of bridge and gum is excessive then pink gum material is added to reline the bridges. This is part of natural healing.

Will food go under the bridge?

Your bridges are designed to keep a small gap between the underside of the bridge and the gum. Small particles of food will go under the bridge. The gap is needed to clean the bridge using floss or waterpik. After six months of healing if the gap is excessive then the bridge may need relining.

What food can I eat after surgery?

After surgery before getting new teeth patients will have soup. After patients get A4 bridge they can eat various soft food items. A list of recommended foot items is provided after surgery.

What does the annual appointment include?

Annual maintenance appointment will include:

  • Visual assessment of the patient, including examining for signs of inflammation, bleeding, mobility, or exudation around the implants.
  • Cleaning of your dental bridges
  • X-Ray examination of your implants to determine whether changes have occurred in bone levels.

What maintenance should I expect for my implants?

Due to the nature of the tissue attachment surrounding the implant(s), dental implants may be more susceptible to inflammation and bone loss when plaque accumulates. Proper maintenance such as brushing and flossing (waterpik works great) of the tissues will ensure the longevity of the implants. Your home-care can significantly influence implant success.

A4 Implant Bridges

Our A4 Bridges® are durable; however, like natural teeth, occlusal wear will affect the biting surfaces of the teeth when the tooth surfaces interact between the upper and lower teeth. More specifically, this wear results in the removal of material from the surface of the teeth.

After the one-year period, we will only charge the surgical costs of the removal/replacement of the implant.
