Reclaim Your Confident Smile
Dr. Shivani Gupta and her team at Peninsula Dental Implant Center love denture patients! She knows that the quality of dentures plays a significant role in their oral health, whole body wellness, and quality of life. Restoring a patient’s smile, ability to speak clearly, and enjoyment in eating is one of the rewards of implant dentistry.
A word about quality
The cost of dentures varies a great deal, related directly to the quality of materials and expertise in design. Economy dentures are typically made of acrylic, with the fit adapted from a standard size and “smile style.” These dentures are prone to breakage and wear, and don’t usually look natural.
Premium dentures simulate the look of gum tissue, and tooth shape, size, position, and the shading is customized. The fit is also personalized. High-quality dentures are quite durable, resisting stains, chips, and breakage. In the long term, they are generally cost-effective.
Types of dentures
- Conventional “floating” dentures are held in place by natural suction or denture adhesive. They restore appearance and chewing function to a degree, but may wobble, slip, or rub sore spots.
- Immediate dentures are designed and fabricated in advance. They are inserted on the day of extractions, protecting the mouth as it heals. Immediate dentures may have to be relined for better fit, after healing.
- An overdenture is a full arch of artificial teeth, held securely in place with four or more dental implants. Dr. Gupta can design a new attractive, great-fitting denture, or she can retrofit your existing one with attachment points that snap onto the implants. This type of prosthetic is sometimes called an implant-retained or implant-supported denture.
